Serina Holmstrom Design

Role: Stacker & Airtable Designer

I crafted a custom project dashboard for an interior design firm, integrating systems design with project management to create a centralized, collaborative workspace that streamlined project tracking and client interactions.

Serina is a talented interior designer who approached me to create a custom project dashboard that would allow her to centralize project resources and allow all of the team members to collaborate digitally. This project was a joy to work on as it combined two major areas of my work, systems design, and architecture. My background in architectural design (specifically universal design and project management) allowed me to put on two hats when designing the project dashboard. I was able to look at the dashboard both from a system design perspective and an architectural project management perspective. The resulting product is a comprehensive yet flexible workspace that captures everything the team needs to track related to a project. It is built using Airtable as the data management software, and Stacker for the user experience.

The dashboard had to meet a number of goals. It had to make it easy to find and track data for the project, including, but not limited to, the furnishing selections/options, designs and drawings, tasks, expenses, site photos, meetings, progress updates, and much more. One of the most important and unique features of the dashboard is that Serina wanted a way to pull specific items/furnishings from her "lookbook" and make them available as options to her clients. This meant creating a centralized lookbook for all of the products that Serina is using on her projects and creating a mechanism for her to be able to share a selection of these items directly in each project dashboard. This way she can send clients options and they can review a gallery of products, compare them, and decide which to move forward with. This has the added benefit of reducing redundancy as all of the products are synced back to the central lookbook, thereby allowing all instances of the product data to be updated simultaneously.

Throughout the project, I conducted many stakeholder review meetings to ensure alignment on the existing dashboard and desired additional features. I had the pleasure to meet with not only Serina but the contracting team that she works with on many of her projects. Their feedback was invaluable as it allowed us to refine the dashboard with multiple user types in mind including clients, contractors/team members, and Serina herself. There are many features that were added and improved as a result of this diverse and detailed feedback.

With such a broad range of talents and experience, I fully endorse Emma as a member of any team fortunate enough to work with her!
